The past few days have been very tough for the United States—especially the Black Community—as the entire country has been grappling with the senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and others.
As I listen, watch, and read about what is going on around us, I sympathize with the grief, anger and fear, including that of many here at Credit Sesame. Our company is founded on the belief that everyone should have equal access to opportunities for a better life, and in light of the recent events in Minnesota, our own communities, and throughout the country, I want to make sure that we can lend our voice and platform to show solidarity for social and racial equality.
As a step forward, we showed a black screen on our website for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the length of time George Floyd was held down by police. Our hope is that all of us take a moment to pause and reflect on how we can each do our part to better our world. This moment took place on Thursday, June 4, at 12pmPT/3pmET. Following this moment, a banner will remain on our website showing our ongoing support for the black community.
I realize that this is a symbolic gesture and that everyone will process and contribute in their own ways. With that in mind, I encourage all of us to be open and discuss these tough and often uncomfortable topics as a way to align, unify, and move forward as a team and society.
We look forward to creating a better future for financial wellness and beyond.
